Blackjack odds and house edge

Keep win probability, blackjack payouts and long-run expected return separate. Each answers a different question.

There is no universal blackjack house edge

Deck count, dealer rules, payout, double restrictions and surrender all affect expected return. A quoted edge also assumes a strategy and calculation model. This reference does not attach one percentage to every game or infer live odds from the appearance of a table.

3:2 and 6:5 describe payment

On a $10 qualifying natural, 3:2 gives $15 profit and 6:5 gives $12. The difference is $3 for that outcome. Neither ratio means that a natural occurs three times in two hands. Winning a normal hand and receiving a natural payout are different events.

Expectation is an average, not a session result

If a hypothetical game has a 1% house edge per initial bet, $1,000 of such wagers corresponds to a $10 expected loss. Actual results can differ widely. This example illustrates a definition; it is not a measured edge for the tool’s rule set.

The tool returns an action, not a win forecast

A strategy lookup need not invent a percentage beside every answer. This tool gives the rule set, hand, action and fallback. It does not claim to calculate the chance of your exact real-world session ending ahead.
