Blackjack table etiquette and hand signals
Make your action clear and follow the table’s procedure. Face-up, handheld and online games can handle decisions differently.
Confirm the procedure before acting
Ask the dealer how actions should be signaled at that table. A clear visible signal helps distinguish hit, stand, double and split. Handheld games can use different motions from a face-up shoe game. Do not assume one illustration covers every venue.
Dealer procedures ↗Keep the wager clear
Place an additional double or split stake as the dealer directs. Do not change the original wager after cards are dealt except through an authorized action. If an action or payout is unclear, ask before the next hand rather than relying on a silent gesture.
Ask about reference cards
Whether a reference card or phone may be used is a venue policy question. A downloadable chart is not permission to use a device at a table. The printable reference includes its assumptions; check both the game rules and the venue’s procedure.
