Blackjack surrender explained

Distinguish early and late surrender, read the fallback action and check whether the option exists at your table.

Late surrender comes after the check

Late surrender is offered only after the dealer’s blackjack check where that check applies. Early surrender is a different rule that can apply before that information. The tool implements late surrender only; selecting it does not make early surrender supported.

Read the hand and the fallback

For S17 with late surrender, hard 16 against 9,10,A and hard 15 against 10 are surrender cases, excluding the pair-of-eights treatment. If surrender is not available, use the fallback in the chart. H17 changes additional cells, including hard 17 against an ace.

A smaller certain loss can be the decision

Surrender ordinarily gives up half the original stake. Strategy compares that known loss with the expected value of continuing. It is not a claim that continuing must lose. A result label should communicate the action without promising what the next cards would have been.
